- I-95 at exit 256. The only interstate interchange in Port Orange, where I-95 meets SR 421. Interstate traffic moves faster than traffic on the city's surface roads, and the forces in a collision rise with speed.
- SR 421, Taylor Road and Dunlawton Avenue. The east-west spine, and the whole route lies inside Port Orange. It is called Taylor Road for about half a mile east of I-95, then becomes Dunlawton Avenue: six lanes as far as Nova Road, four lanes from there to US 1. Dunlawton crosses the Florida East Coast Railway main line before reaching US 1, then carries on east as SR A1A to the causeway. Halifax Health's Port Orange hospital has a Dunlawton Avenue address.
- US 1, Ridgewood Avenue. The main local north-south road. It enters the city from the south at Spruce Creek Park, near New Smyrna Beach, and leaves at the South Daytona line. Until I-95 was built it carried the state's main north-south traffic along this coast.
- SR 5A, Nova Road, and Clyde Morris Boulevard (CR 483). Both meet Dunlawton Avenue between I-95 and US 1.
- Williamson Boulevard. Two emergency departments and an urgent care clinic listed further down have Williamson Boulevard addresses, one of them at Taylor Road and one at Airport Road.
- SR A1A and SR 441 on the beachside. SR A1A runs over the Port Orange Causeway and along South Atlantic Avenue; SR 441 is South Peninsula Drive.
Rear-end collisions at a traffic light are usually low-speed, and a low-speed crash is the kind people talk themselves out of getting checked after. Port Orange is a city in Volusia County, part of the Deltona, Daytona Beach and Ormond Beach metropolitan area, directly south of South Daytona. The 2020 census counted 62,596 residents, up from 56,048 in 2010, across a total area of 28.7 square miles, about 2 square miles of it water.
The same census put the median age at 49.0, with 27.2% of residents aged 65 or older. The statute makes no allowance for age, and neither does the count: an older driver hurt at a Dunlawton light has the same 14 calendar days as anyone else. If a family member is doing the organising, the date that matters is the crash date on the report, not the day someone first notices a problem.
The city has water on its east side. The Halifax River separates mainland Port Orange from the beach peninsula, and the Port Orange Causeway (SR A1A), commonly called the Port Orange Bridge or the Dunlawton Avenue Bridge, links the two. The present high bridge replaced a drawbridge in 1990. A crash on the causeway or on the beachside counts for PIP exactly as a crash on the mainland does.
Spruce Creek runs through the south of the city, and US 1 enters Port Orange at Spruce Creek Park. Spruce Creek Airport, a private community airport, is also in the area. The nearest major airport is Daytona Beach International.
Public transport matters here too. VOTRAN runs several bus routes through Port Orange, with Sunday and night service on routes 4 and 17, so a crash can involve a bus passenger or someone on foot. AdventHealth Port Orange ER
5811 Williamson Blvd, at Williamson Boulevard and Taylor Road. AdventHealth opened it in July 2021 as part of AdventHealth Daytona Beach, states that it is not an urgent care center, and states that its care is billed at hospital emergency department rates.
For the most serious injuries, Halifax Health's emergency services page states that it runs the area's only Level II Trauma Center. No wait times are given here; none of these facilities publishes one that stays true for long.
An emergency room is not the only visit that counts. Halifax Health lists an ExpressCare urgent care clinic at 5440 S Williamson Blvd, Port Orange, for injuries that need prompt attention but not an emergency room. Urgent care is generally staffed by physicians, physician assistants and advanced practice registered nurses, so an examination there usually satisfies the 14 days and can also produce the emergency medical condition finding. Whichever door you use, say that the visit is because of a motor vehicle crash and give the date, so the chart connects your symptoms to the collision.
